Ashley is a work commissioned as part of the Margaret Tait Award 2019/20. It is a semi-autobiographical rural horror film filmed on the West Coast of Scotland, with Travis Alabanza playing the part of Ashley's voice and me playing the part of Ashley's body. Drawing on the conventions of the genre, it takes an experience of contemporary femininity and mines it for terror. In doing so, it animates the fears, stresses, and vivid transformations of a certain kind of trans life.
